Enriching meeting of the Working Groups of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor

From October 9 to 11, representatives of 23 Ministries of Labor, representatives of workers and employers, and experts from international organizations met to discuss priority issues of the Declaration and Plan of Action of San Salvador. Freedom of association and collective bargaining: fundamental pillars of democracy and prosperity

On October 11 the RIAL Seminar "Freedom of Association, Collective Bargaining and Sustainable Development in a context of economic crisis: Preservation of citizenship" took place. Stimulating a discussion of these issues in the public and private sectors and creating a space for dialogue about the challenges, opportunities and strategies were the main objectives.

"Rights at work are essential to recovery" - Guy Ryder, Director of the ILO

The new Director General of the ILO affirmed in his first interview that although the number-one priority for the unemployed is to find a job, job quality is also crucial not only for individuals but for the global economy. Also, referring to youth employment, he said that systems of guarantees for youth that offer professional experience or strengthened training should be explored in order to address this problem.

Conclusion of the World Congress of Labour and Social Security Law in Chile

From September 25 to 28 delegates from over 45 countries participated in this academic meeting organized by the International Society for Labour Law and Social Security. Among the main topics discussed were the role of labor inspection, migrant protection, unemployment and workplace harassment.
